y of Beast Wars II Manga in Comics Bon-Bon, February 1999: This is it! The end of BW II as told in the alternate universe of the manga. I asked my friend Drew to translate a few of the more important scenes for me, but for the most part this is a big fight scene. Next month, BW Neo will take the place of BW II in the manga. Very few of the regular page numbers are present, so I'll just use the within-story page numbers this time. Page 1: Galvatron and Lioconvoy square off for what both know will be their final battle. They stand on the artificial planet Nemesis, which is still approaching Gaea. The two leap into action. Pages 2-3: Big two-page splash of the two slamming together. "BEAST WARS SECOND - THE END!!!" Page 4: Energy crackles around them as they grapple, finally being blown away from each other by the explosive release of that energy. Galvatron skids to a stop and deploys his whip-arms (fold the dragon tail parts down over his fists). Page 5: Galvatron leaps at Lioconvoy, who extends energy claws to block the whip hands. Page 6: Galvatron joins his arms into a mighty dragon's tail and slams it down at Lioconvoy, who braces to catch it. Page 7: Lioconvoy grabs the tail and, to Galvatron's surprise, judo-throws the Destron leader. Page 8: Showing that ingenuity in partial transformations that the manga- universe characters have demonstrated, Galvatron pops his dragon head out of the drill on his back and unleashes a torrent of flame at Lioconvoy. Lioconvoy fires his rocket pack and leaps out of the way of the plasma. Page 9: Galvatron has just managed to get back on his feet, and Lioconvoy slams into him from on high. Page 10: Galvatron is knocked for a loop. Scuba and Kid discuss the odds that Galvatron is out for the count. Galvatron gasps for breath. Then Gigastorm leaps out from behind one of Nemesis's spines, attacking! Page 11: Gigastorm threatens Lioconvoy, while Galvatron warns his (huge) little brother not to try and take on Lioconvoy. Gigastorm ignores this advice and opens up on Lioconvoy with all guns. Lioconvoy just stands there as the firestorm rages around him. Then he gets ready to strike.... Page 12: Lioconvoy attacks, driving his fist straight through Gigastorm's abdomen and out the other side. Gigastorm slams to the ground. Page 13: Gonna break this one into panels. Panel 1: Gigastorm reverts to Megastorm. Panel 2: A hole in his gut, Megastorm gasps in pain. Panel 3: Galvatron rushes to his brother's side, cradling him in his arms. G: Little brother, hold on! M: Big...brother.... Panel 4: Megastorm looks into Galvatron's eyes. M: Looks like the end of the line for me. All in all, I was a pretty lousy little brother. Panel 5: Closeup of Galvatron. G: No! That's not true! You were a brave warrior. Panel 6: Still on Galvatron. G: I'm proud to have you as a little brother, twerp. (Actually, a mocking honorific, but the tone conveys "twerp.) Panel 7: Megastorm in closeup, his eyes closed in pain, oil dripping from the corner of his mouth, like blood. M: Heh...cough.... Panel 8: Largest panel on page, closeup of Megastorm's face, tears are streaming down his face and mingling with the oil. M: That's the first nice thing you've ever said to me. I'm so happy, big bro.... Page 14: The light goes out of Megastorm's eyes and his head tilts to the side. Galvatron pauses in shock, then lifts up Megastorm's body in his arms, the stars and Gaea in the background. "Little brother...." Page 15: Galvatron carefully lays his brother's body down. Then he turns to look at Lioconvoy, anger in his eyes. In a 3/4 page splash, he charges at Lioconvoy, shouting, "I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU, LIOCONVOY!! UUOOOOOAAAAHHH!!" Page 16: Galvatron slams his fist into the surface of Nemesis, cracking the ground in a half dozen places. Kid and Scuba shout out warnings, but too late as the fissures race towards Lioconvoy. Page 17: The ground collapses, dropping Lioconvoy into a pool of Angolmois that Nemesis had absorbed. Galvatron promises that Lioconvoy's fate will be worse than death. Page 18: Lioconvoy leaps out and pops his claws, launching into a flurry of slashes that Galvatron steps back from, grinning. Then Galvatron grabs Lioconvoy's arm and shows him that his hand has become a cruel claw. The Angolmois energy has started to do its work on Lioconvoy, turning him into the beast he dreamed about in installment 2 (August). Page 19: Galvatron continues his explanation of how the Angolmois will now change Lioconvoy...perhaps turning him into a Destron to replace Megastorm! Lioconvoy tries to deny this, but then his Cybertron (Maximal) symbol morphs into a Destron (Predacon) symbol. A shadow falls across Lioconvoy has he clutches his chest, trying to deny the changes ripping through his body and soul. Page 20: The other Cybertrons are, needless to say, worried. Then Lioconvoy opens fire on them briefly as he struggles for control, forcing the others to dive for cover. Kid notices something Very Bad. Page 21: The Cybertron symbol has completed its change to a Destron one. Galvatron smiles triumphantly. Lioconvoy becomes a dark demonic parody of himself, while Kid cries out something like "NOOOOO!" Then, um, the chipmunks chime in. Bighorn brought his chipmunk pals from last issue along for the ride, even outfitting them with little space suits. Page 22: The chipmunks invoke the spirit of Gaea, asking the planet to cure Lioconvoy of his corruption. The Oni-Convoy continues to grow more twisted and evil. Page 23: Gaea calls out to all living things, and the animals start to glow with an inner light. They move across the surface of the planet, their glow forming lines, lines which are visible from Nemesis. The light calms the demon within Lioconvoy, and he turns to look at it.... Pages 24-25: All of Gaea glows as one gigantic Cybertron symbol, the pure light of life driving the evil Angolmois energy from Lioconvoy's body. Page 26: The light enters Lioconvoy and he shakes off the last influences of the Angolmois like a crust of dirt. He now glows with his own incredible light, his chest symbol is restored, and he shines so brightly that Galvatron cannot bear to look directly at him. Page 27: Big splash of Shining Lioconvoy. Page 28: Galvatron hehs. So, Lioconvoy has tapped into the force of light, eh? Well, Nemesis carries more than enough Angolmois to counter that! Page 28-29: Between pages spread of Galvatron growing to immense size and darkness. Page 29: Threats back and forth between the two. Page 30: Gigantic Galvatron looms over Shining Lioconvoy, grinning malefically and savoring his impending victory. Then Lioconvoy listens to the voice of his Matrix, gathering together the mighty Matrix Bomb attack. (Okay, I'm making the names up here, but I bet the real ones aren't that far off.) Page 31: Splash page of the Matrix Bomb being unleashed in the form of a giant Cybertron symbol made from pure energy. Page 32: The Matrix Bomb strikes Galvatron in the chest, burning the Cybertron brand into him and banishing the darkness. The power grows, and Galvatron is consumed within its pure light. Page 33: The Matrix Bomb continues to grow...and consumes all. Page 34: Aftermath. Nemesis and all aboard it have been destroyed. The Cybertrons have "left," it's implied they left for another plane of existence. But is all life no more? Has the titanic struggle of Light versus Dark claimed everything in its path? NO! Life endures on Gaea, and a shaft of light penetrates the clouds. Page 35: Someday, the Cybertrons will return again when they are most needed to protect life and light, but now they pass into legend. And so ends Beast Wars Second. The creatures of Gaea will remember their sacrifice.... Since the manga never really developed Liojunior's role as child of Lioconvoy and Gaea, another mechanism was needed to bring forth the avatar of Gaea in Lioconvoy after he'd been infected with the Angolmois. The chipmunks were a tad on the cheesy side, but I think it more or less worked. Dave Van Domelen, notes it's not uncommon in Japan to kill off everyone on both sides at the end of the story....
